Thursday, I threw julie a bachelorette party with an old high school friend, Janice. We had such a fun time and it was highlighted by the penis straws that Janice was able to find in Boston.
On Friday, July 4th, their parents hosted a cocktail party/dinner up in 2 penthouse suites at the Canyons Resort. It was great to see old friends and make new ones and we were even lucky enough to see a moose ambling up the dirt road!
Saturday was the wedding and we arrived up in Park City around 4:30. As we stepped on to the gondola that would take us up to the ceremony and reception, they passed out champagne (none for me, of course!) and we were able to get to know more of the wedding guests. The ceremony was a beautiful, with the guests sitting on a bridge and Julie and Ricky getting married under a chuppah. The evening was then filled with dancing, drinking, eating wonderful food, and having a great time.
I was asked to give a toast to the bride and groom at dinner and I think i knocked it out of the park. It was short and sweet, a little blend of humor and nostalgic advice from an old married woman. I received many compliments afterwards and it was such an honor to be asked to come up with something to share.
Unfortunately Thursday night I started feeling ill and I ended up logging many hours in the bathroom, especially on her wedding day. In fact, I have been sick now for over a week. It's been so bad that on Wednesday I ended up in the hospital receiving IV fluids. i think yesterday I turned a corner and I'm starting to feel much better.
As for baby, I had an ultrasound on Monday and it was INSANE. Sure enough, there was a little human-like baby hanging out in there! It had hands and fingers, legs and toes! We could see the baby's profile and it was just the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Last time we saw the baby it was just a little flicker of a heartbeat. Now it has a strong (and fast) heartbeat of 175 beats per minute. It's an old wives' tale that a heartbeat over 160 is a girl. While I have felt that this was a boy from the minute I found out I was pregnant, now I'm just not so sure. Pocket thinks it's a girl. I seem to waver on a daily basis. In as early as 3 weeks, we will find out. crazy huh!?
The weirdest thing about the ultrasound was when we first saw the baby it was just hanging out lying there, asleep I guess. I just figured that babies don't move much when they are only 12 weeks gestation. The tech needed to get a clear view of the baby so we had to "wake them up." She had me lay on my side and WHOA BOY! Baby started bucking like a bronco rider! kicking and punching, making these jerky little movements! It's too early for me to feel anything which just added to the strangeness.
Baby is fine as far as anyone can tell. I had routine genetic testing performed monday as well and we have since found out that I am not a carrier of cystic fibrosis and the baby has a 1 in 10,000 chance of Downs Syndrome and Trisomy 18. basically, the chances are way way low and not something anyone is worried about. They offer this test routinely for any parents that are interested and I'm glad we had it done, if for no other reason but to give us some piece of mind.
I'm finally out of my first trimester but haven't been feeling better yet because of my illness. Hopefully this infection will clear itself out and I will start feeling more normal soon!
