Many of you may have noticed that around our house we have little cat doors that lead from room to room so that our cats can maneuver around the dogs and not worry about being chased and eaten as a snack. It is usually quite fun to see one of our cats streak through the house with Luna right behind him and then the cat jumps through the cat door and Luna skids to halt just like in a cartoon. Last night, however, something happened that i think we will forever question the use of our little cat doors.
It was about 1:00 am and Pocket and I woke up to the sound of this weird scuffling. Our bedroom door is closed but the noise seems to be coming somewhere from inside our bedroom. All three of our dogs sleep in our bedroom while the cats can have free reign of the house. Pocket gets up and flips on the light only to find that our one-eyed foster dog,Teddy, has his head stuck through the cat door. And we are talking STUCK! Pocket starts to pull on him. He then flips on the hall light and starts pushing him, swearing the entire time. Teddy is making these weird whining noises and I put my glasses on to get a better look at the situation.

In my mind all I can think is "HOW IN THE WORLD ARE WE GOING TO JUSTIFY CALLING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO TELL THEM THAT OUR BASSET HOUND'S HEAD IS STUCK IN THE CAT DOOR!?!?!" Images of firemen with big chainsaws and decapitated dogs started to fill my head. And then I started to imagine what life might be like with a dog that is forever stuck in a door. Thoughts of cleaning up after him and feeding him in the hallway. Unhinging the door and carrying it with us on dog walks. It was all too much. I knelt down next to Teddy's body while Pocket is on the other side of the door trying to push his head through the door. I start moving all of his loose skin around his face and ears back and POP! he is freed!
I'm so glad that the Millcreek Fire Department didn't have to come out. I'm sure we would have been the talk of the fire station for quite some time.
