Another great PostSecret postcard

I wish I was clever enough to have come up with something like this.
I have my 17 week check-up tomorrow and later this week we will find out if we are having a boy or a girl!!!! I think it's a boy. Pocket thinks it's a girl. Ladies and gentlemen, please place your bets!
Keep your eyes peeled for a totally whawesome blog post in the next few days.

PS I have resorted to placing rubber bands around my pants button holes so that I can squeeze into my normal clothes a little bit longer. Also, I am contemplating creating a new business of creating cute and sexy maternity bras because the ones that I have seen my grandmother would view as "practical and functional." I view them as "large empty flour sacks with not even a hint of hubba-hubba."

but my tastebuds made me do it

For about a week and half my body wanted to eat nothing but cherry pie. On any normal, non-puffy day, I would probably gag at the thought of cherry pie (i'm much more a peach cobbler girl).

I believe this whim for cherry pie had something to do with my monthly magazine subscription "Cooking Light" whose cover for July featured a delectable, mouth-watering lattice pie straight from the angels in heaven. I keep this magazine in the bathroom (too much information, i'm sure) and every time I had to pee (which is about an infinity number of times a day) I would see that damn pie and I couldn't stop the salivary glands from working over time.

It even got so far that one time after my midnight potty run, I climbed back in to bed after glancing at the gooey cherry filling and promptly dreamed that I was baked into a large cherry pie and had to eat my way out. it was probably the best dream I have ever had. Even better than the dream that Christina Aguilera took me baby clothes shopping at the local TJ Max.

It an attempt to NOT eat everything that crosses my mind, I held out buying a cherry pie a whole week and half before finally indulging last Saturday when we hosted a BBQ. I had called my friends ahead of time to make sure that they would each take some of the pie home so that I didn't have enough leftovers to sneak in the middle of the night. And can I tell you, it was worth every bit of that $12 dollars I forked over for it? And since then, that magazine has done nothing for me. I have been satiated...for the time being, right?

Yesterday, while at the office this wave of "MEATLOAF" came over me. I know, right? And today it was "STEAK!" Not just a juicy, perfectly medium-rare piece of beef, but "LEFTOVER BURNED TO A HOCKEY PUCK, ICY COLD STEAK!" And lucky for me, the Hot Pocket had made steak a couple of nights prior and i was able to squelch my thirst of steak. I sat in my office, closed the door and proceeded to eat the steak with my bare hands. I'm not sure what possessed me. i usually have such good table manners! My grandma would have fallen off her chair if she saw me behaving in such a fashion.

I swear pregnancy has turned me in to this weird food monster. Of course you hear about cravings but no one ever tells you that the cravings are sometimes so bad that if you don't get that piece of cherry pie with cheddar cheese sprinkled over the top, your face just might melt off and you will rip your hair out in large fists. I figure, it's time to let the secret out.

and I know that i've said this before, but I'll say it again (and again and again) pregnancy is so strange.

Happy Wedding Day!

The wedding festivities lasted 4 days straight and we loved every minute of it.

Thursday, I threw julie a bachelorette party with an old high school friend, Janice. We had such a fun time and it was highlighted by the penis straws that Janice was able to find in Boston.

On Friday, July 4th, their parents hosted a cocktail party/dinner up in 2 penthouse suites at the Canyons Resort. It was great to see old friends and make new ones and we were even lucky enough to see a moose ambling up the dirt road!

Saturday was the wedding and we arrived up in Park City around 4:30. As we stepped on to the gondola that would take us up to the ceremony and reception, they passed out champagne (none for me, of course!) and we were able to get to know more of the wedding guests. The ceremony was a beautiful, with the guests sitting on a bridge and Julie and Ricky getting married under a chuppah. The evening was then filled with dancing, drinking, eating wonderful food, and having a great time.

I was asked to give a toast to the bride and groom at dinner and I think i knocked it out of the park. It was short and sweet, a little blend of humor and nostalgic advice from an old married woman. I received many compliments afterwards and it was such an honor to be asked to come up with something to share.

Unfortunately Thursday night I started feeling ill and I ended up logging many hours in the bathroom, especially on her wedding day. In fact, I have been sick now for over a week. It's been so bad that on Wednesday I ended up in the hospital receiving IV fluids. i think yesterday I turned a corner and I'm starting to feel much better.

As for baby, I had an ultrasound on Monday and it was INSANE. Sure enough, there was a little human-like baby hanging out in there! It had hands and fingers, legs and toes! We could see the baby's profile and it was just the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Last time we saw the baby it was just a little flicker of a heartbeat. Now it has a strong (and fast) heartbeat of 175 beats per minute. It's an old wives' tale that a heartbeat over 160 is a girl. While I have felt that this was a boy from the minute I found out I was pregnant, now I'm just not so sure. Pocket thinks it's a girl. I seem to waver on a daily basis. In as early as 3 weeks, we will find out. crazy huh!?

The weirdest thing about the ultrasound was when we first saw the baby it was just hanging out lying there, asleep I guess. I just figured that babies don't move much when they are only 12 weeks gestation. The tech needed to get a clear view of the baby so we had to "wake them up." She had me lay on my side and WHOA BOY! Baby started bucking like a bronco rider! kicking and punching, making these jerky little movements! It's too early for me to feel anything which just added to the strangeness.

Baby is fine as far as anyone can tell. I had routine genetic testing performed monday as well and we have since found out that I am not a carrier of cystic fibrosis and the baby has a 1 in 10,000 chance of Downs Syndrome and Trisomy 18. basically, the chances are way way low and not something anyone is worried about. They offer this test routinely for any parents that are interested and I'm glad we had it done, if for no other reason but to give us some piece of mind.

I'm finally out of my first trimester but haven't been feeling better yet because of my illness. Hopefully this infection will clear itself out and I will start feeling more normal soon!

Things that make me want to throw up...

  1. Emigration Canyon- What was supposed to be a nice leisurely drive in the mountains turned in to a car sick nightmare where we had to pull over to the side of road so that I could catch my breath. And i don't even get car sick!
  2. Teddy's food bowl- There is just something about dog slobber and the smell of kibble that makes me sick in the morning.
  3. Any trip to the grocery store...especially the dairy department.
  4. Costco on a Saturday. This sort of falls under #3 but I can't stand the smell of all food booths with the little old ladies handing out toothpicks of Brie and Li'l Smokies. Like, gag me with a spoon.
  5. My favorite high school perfume, Romance by Ralph Lauren. I don't think I will EVER be able to wear it again.
  6. Authentic Malaysian black soup with a pig (?) heart floating in it.
  7. John Mellencamp's song "Hurts So Good." I was driving to work when this song came on the radio and it literally made me start to vomit. I really can't explain why but I choose to believe that it was the flashback image of neon clothes and the old smell of Aquanet and my LipSmackers Bubble Gum lip gloss that I wore when I was 7 that put me over the edge. I swear, I'm delusional.
