Happy Wedding Day!

The wedding festivities lasted 4 days straight and we loved every minute of it.

Thursday, I threw julie a bachelorette party with an old high school friend, Janice. We had such a fun time and it was highlighted by the penis straws that Janice was able to find in Boston.

On Friday, July 4th, their parents hosted a cocktail party/dinner up in 2 penthouse suites at the Canyons Resort. It was great to see old friends and make new ones and we were even lucky enough to see a moose ambling up the dirt road!

Saturday was the wedding and we arrived up in Park City around 4:30. As we stepped on to the gondola that would take us up to the ceremony and reception, they passed out champagne (none for me, of course!) and we were able to get to know more of the wedding guests. The ceremony was a beautiful, with the guests sitting on a bridge and Julie and Ricky getting married under a chuppah. The evening was then filled with dancing, drinking, eating wonderful food, and having a great time.

I was asked to give a toast to the bride and groom at dinner and I think i knocked it out of the park. It was short and sweet, a little blend of humor and nostalgic advice from an old married woman. I received many compliments afterwards and it was such an honor to be asked to come up with something to share.

Unfortunately Thursday night I started feeling ill and I ended up logging many hours in the bathroom, especially on her wedding day. In fact, I have been sick now for over a week. It's been so bad that on Wednesday I ended up in the hospital receiving IV fluids. i think yesterday I turned a corner and I'm starting to feel much better.

As for baby, I had an ultrasound on Monday and it was INSANE. Sure enough, there was a little human-like baby hanging out in there! It had hands and fingers, legs and toes! We could see the baby's profile and it was just the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Last time we saw the baby it was just a little flicker of a heartbeat. Now it has a strong (and fast) heartbeat of 175 beats per minute. It's an old wives' tale that a heartbeat over 160 is a girl. While I have felt that this was a boy from the minute I found out I was pregnant, now I'm just not so sure. Pocket thinks it's a girl. I seem to waver on a daily basis. In as early as 3 weeks, we will find out. crazy huh!?

The weirdest thing about the ultrasound was when we first saw the baby it was just hanging out lying there, asleep I guess. I just figured that babies don't move much when they are only 12 weeks gestation. The tech needed to get a clear view of the baby so we had to "wake them up." She had me lay on my side and WHOA BOY! Baby started bucking like a bronco rider! kicking and punching, making these jerky little movements! It's too early for me to feel anything which just added to the strangeness.

Baby is fine as far as anyone can tell. I had routine genetic testing performed monday as well and we have since found out that I am not a carrier of cystic fibrosis and the baby has a 1 in 10,000 chance of Downs Syndrome and Trisomy 18. basically, the chances are way way low and not something anyone is worried about. They offer this test routinely for any parents that are interested and I'm glad we had it done, if for no other reason but to give us some piece of mind.

I'm finally out of my first trimester but haven't been feeling better yet because of my illness. Hopefully this infection will clear itself out and I will start feeling more normal soon!

What fall is all about

David and Emily invited us over to their house today to watch football, eat snacks, and carve some pumpkins. All of our dogs were invited to come over and play with their adorable puppy, Skyler, and before long we had a full-blown dog pawty on our hands. We had a great time and our dogs were certainly pooped when they got home. What we didn't anticipate was that the dogs would have an unhealthy obsession with eating pumpkins innards. They were fanatical about sticking their heads in the pumpkin to get a better bite of the gourd.

The gang's all here!

To my surprise, we were invited back to tailgate and go to the Utes football game Saturday. shocking, i know, especially after the Pocket's drink 'n puke fest last time. We started the party around 10:00 am and we didn't stop until 8:30 pm. We had such a great time and we have some really awesome friends.

And we Wii'd all over the couch!

It has been several weeks ago now but we had a Wii night over at Kylee and Chris's house. If you have not played with the Nintendo Wii you should because it is quite enjoyable. just watch out for Ramsey. He likes to try and catch the joysticks in his mouth.

Thirsty Thursday

So tonight we went to the Beez baseball game with our friends. You might know them previously as the Buzz or Stingerzz. It was a great time and we totally rocked the student discount. Admission was $4.50 and beer was cheap! i haven't felt so American since...the rodeo i went to a few weeks ago. doh!

My beer foam looks like cinnabon! i know...i know.

This has got to take talent!

To my friend in Europe working for a very prestigious company...

My dear friend (you know who you are)-

First, let me point out something that you wrote in your email that completely blew my mind. I thought i was the only one that was worried about my ring getting caught on my jeans pocket. In fact, i would troubleshoot and obsess for days on end in the beginning. "But my hand doesn't go in nice and neatly from whence it used to!" i would whine which ultimately would be met by the rolling of the eyes from the Hot Pocket and me puffing my lower lip out and looking....well...pathetic really. Then I'd make the diamond flash in the light and i'd temporarily blind him,mid-eye roll. moooowhahahahahahaha! i can't believe that someone is just as odd as I am. I guess great minds (that have grown up together) think alike. which brings me to my next point...

Indicating that we have known each other now for, and i quote, "HALF OF OUR LIVES" made my eye bug out and made me vomit a little in my mouth. can it be? are we old? and heaven forbid....are we GROWN UPS?!?!?! say it isn't so! But in all honesty and seriousness, I must say i would not be who i am if it weren't for you and i am so grateful we are still friends. Best friends. There aren't many people I know that i can go seeing once a year and phone calls every 3-4 months and we pick up exactly where we left off as if nothing has changed.

and, cue the theme song from our favorite pre-pubescent movie "Now and Then" (which came out in 1995 by the way)...I am so very, very proud of you.

I will follow this up with an email but i thought because you check my blog "17 times a day" you deserved a little shout out. in fact, i believe you are the only person that even reads this thing. that being said,

Viva le Circle du francais!

Love,

me.

ps. eventually you get used to the whole jeans pocket thing and it's totally worth the change. you either twist the diamond to the inside of your palm, or you only use the tips of your fingers to access your jeans pocket. You will also learn to never put change in your left front pocket. when you receive the hardware, call me and we can practice.

"Tuesday's Wednesday"

A few weeks ago i received this invitation in my inbox:

"Now that it's finally stopped raining, it's time for MOVIE NIGHT to commence!

Dust off your roller skates, dig out your rainbow headbands, find your glitter cherry lip gloss and feather your bangs . . . this year’s summer kick-off is a tribute to all that was great and tacky in the 80’s:
Xanadu.

One of our long time movie attendees (as well as our fabulous caterer) had put in the request and we thought it was just wacky enough to make a great movie night movie. Don’t worry; there will be enough to drink to take the sting out of it. Besides, what else were you going to do with all that glitter and Aquanet. "

So it took me all of 3/4ths of a second to decide that i was going to attend this movie night season opener and i was dragging (I mean bringing) the hot pocket with me. So last night we went to the KJ's house with frozen go-gurts in hand. I contemplated wearing legwarmers and my old banana clip but thought that perhaps, i might stick out a little too much.

What a way fun time! There was a bunch of really great people there, some from work, most not. Lots of yummy food and an entire barrel (?) of lemon drops to take the "sting out of it."

Have you ever watched that movie? oh like, 20 years ago, you say? You must, MUST, MUST go and rent it. perhaps the weirdest and totally rad movie ever made. Strange. Bizarre...and SPANDEX A PLENTY! Not entirely sure what kind of drugs these people were on but it kept me on the edge of my seat to see just what kind of craziness would happen next. and no i was not prepared for Olivia Newton John dressed up in country fringe and then wearing a triangle on her head, and then being portrayed as different cartoon animals, and THEN, tight rope walkers and circus people spinning in the air by their necks. And who can turn down seeing the great Gene Kelly rollerskating with a bunch of "pre-punk rockers"?!?!

A night i will never, NEVER EVER forget. This is what summers are meant for!

Battle of the Sexes

Saturday night a few of my friends got together at D. And B.'s house to hang out and play parlor games. We started off the night with a couple of rousing hands of poker and followed it up with a very fun (and dare i say, UNFAIR) game of Battle of the Sexes. Have you ever played it before? The boys ask the girls "male trivia" questions, and the girls ask the boys "female trivia" questions...gender stereotypes at their finest. And let's just be honest, the girls had it a LOT harder than the boys. one of the questions we had to ask the boys was "What is the main ingredient in guacamole?" I'm not sure why this is considered a girly question but who, male or female, wouldn't know the answer? Us girls were asked questions like "What is the length of board called that you attach to the bottom of a wall?" Baseboard, right? WRONG. Skirting board...totally lame.
Throughout the duration of the evening, I did learn a few interesting tid-bits that i thought i should share.
  1. When D. and B's fountain runs out of water, it makes this horrible grinding noise. For 15 minutes we were cursing the neighbors thinking that they were the ones behind the commotion. whoops!
  2. I learned the male importance of an elongated toilet bowl...fascinating
  3. The Hot Pocket has an uncanny ability to throw down when it comes to trivia about the movie "Ghost." Battle of the Sexes had A LOT of "Ghost" trivia for us to ask the boys. I'm a girl and i've never seen "Ghost" but you know, whatever. When we asked the boys what the theme song from "Ghost" was, Pocket broke into song at the last possible second. When we had to ask the occupation of Patrick Swayze's character, he shouted investment banker! And most impressively, when asked to finish a quote, he kicked it's trash and took names.

Word of advice to all my lady friends, If you pride yourself for always being right and knowing all of the answers, DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME. The boys beat us miserably. And never have i seen 3 couples so close to divorce or breaking up. If you must play this game, just be sure your husband isn't a "Ghost" freak like mine. In all my years of knowing him, never did i realize what a girl he is. Who'd a thunk?!

Only one person I know truly appreciates that Nessie really exists

i read today on msn.com that Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster, has been spotted once again! And there is video to prove it. I got a little excited when i watched the video and read the accompanying article. haha. of course it couldn't be true...but could it? I immediately wanted to share this news with someone, and the one and only person that i know of that would appreciate this info about weird going-ons, was my good bud, Chad. He is married to my breast friend, Lindsie and last summer they moved away from us to Washington. (i'm not bitter or anything). We used to hunt for UFO's. Yes we were all one big UFO chasing, Loch Ness loving family.
And in case you are wondering, he was super excited with the Nessie news.
And he thought it was totally awesome, too. so there.

Youtube

On Friday nights we get together and watch Youtube. Fun times are had by MANY!
In this photo we are watching Black Ninja. Perhaps there is no other place i'd rather be than watching a ninja crash and having enough strength to reel his num chucks around a few times for effect before passing out. That's what i call a good start to the weekend.

Black Ninja

Oh and yes that is my husband, the hot pocket in the red shirt doing god knows what with his arms.
