Pita's Hospital Stay
Poor Pita Pocket. She was hospitalized Monday afternoon and stayed at Primary Children's for just over 24 hours. She has gastroenteritis and para influenza. I noticed her spitting up more on Saturday and by Monday morning, she was projectile vomiting several feet across the room.
To make matters worse, I started to vomit early Monday morning to the point that I just couldn't stop! Pita was eventually able to get in to see a pediatrician at 11:00 am Monday morning and we packed our bags, vomit buckets and all. So there we sat, Pita and I throwing up constantly and I"m sure everyone was totally grossed out. The doctor spent a long time assessing Pita and saw how sick I was that she insisted on getting me a wheelchair and walking me down to the ER. I didn't want to leave Pita but Hot Pocket was there to make sure she was ok.
My hospital visit lasted about 5 hours. When they checked me in to the ER my heart was beating very fast and it was irregular so that seemed to concern everyone. However, after a few EKGs, they thought I was fine. They just gave me lots of anti-nausea meds and discharged me so that i could be with Pita.
While I was alone in the ER, the pediatrician decided that Pita needed to go to the ER and she was soon admitted. When I was discharged from the hospital, I walked down to Primary Children's where we spent the night on some cots.
She was allowed to go home last night but we need to see her pediatrician this morning. She is still quite sick to her stomach, vomiting and diarrhea, that I'm hoping she won't be readmitted.
I took a few pictures of her with my camera phone. She was certainly a charmer even though she was so sick. She rarely cried and would smile at every nurse or doctor that came in to take care of her.
They tried several times to start an IV but could only find a vein in her head. Poor gal!
