End of an Era...I'm so sad

On Monday our neighbor behind us came and spoke to Pocket to tell us that a number of our neighbors are ready to call the police because our dogs bark loudly all day long. First and foremost, our dogs are INSIDE in their CRATES! We recently had our windows replaced with the hopes that it would cut down on the sound. While I have noticed that the bassets bark when we first leave the house and when we come home, we didn't realize that it was all day long. The neighbor told us that the guy to our north was so upset that he wanted to call the cops ASAP but the other guy told him that he would talk to us first to see if we can fix things.

So this whole week I have been in a state of panic. We have been taking the 2 bassets and Luna to daycare all week in the hopes to diffuse the situation. After reading the laws of South Salt Lake, once you are issued a warning you have 7 days to comply. if you don't, then they can take all of your animals. What i'm having a hard time wrapping my head around is our dogs are inside and I can see that if the dogs were outside in the backyard barking all the time then yes, there would be a good complaint.

Last night we put the dogs in their crates and left to see just how loud the barking was and sure enough it is VERY loud. As far as we could tell, Luna was not barking and it was Teddy and Buster that were barking uncontrollably. After a long and emotional talk, we came to the decision that fostering right now is just not a good idea. We were prepared to discontinue fostering when the baby came but we just can't perpetuate a hostile living environment with our neighbors. While Pocket and I both know that this is the right decision and our hands have been incredibly full the past few months with 2 foster dogs, it is heartbreaking to know that these dogs that have had such a hard life are going back to the shelter. These are GOOD dogs! sweet dogs. and the thought of them having to go to ANOTHER home makes me feel like such a bad person.

Buster and Teddy will be going to the shelter on Saturday. I can't talk about it without crying.
