A few weeks ago i received this invitation in my inbox:
"Now that it's finally stopped raining, it's time for MOVIE NIGHT to commence!
Dust off your roller skates, dig out your rainbow headbands, find your glitter cherry lip gloss and feather your bangs . . . this year’s summer kick-off is a tribute to all that was great and tacky in the 80’s: Xanadu.

One of our long time movie attendees (as well as our fabulous caterer) had put in the request and we thought it was just wacky enough to make a great movie night movie. Don’t worry; there will be enough to drink to take the sting out of it. Besides, what else were you going to do with all that glitter and Aquanet. "
So it took me all of 3/4ths of a second to decide that i was going to attend this movie night season opener and i was dragging (I mean bringing) the hot pocket with me. So last night we went to the KJ's house with frozen go-gurts in hand. I contemplated wearing legwarmers and my old banana clip but thought that perhaps, i might stick out a little too much.
What a way fun time! There was a bunch of really great people there, some from work, most not. Lots of yummy food and an entire barrel (?) of lemon drops to take the "sting out of it."
Have you ever watched that movie? oh like, 20 years ago, you say? You must, MUST, MUST go and rent it. perhaps the weirdest and totally rad movie ever made. Strange. Bizarre...and SPANDEX A PLENTY! Not entirely sure what kind of drugs these people were on but it kept me on the edge of my seat to see just what kind of craziness would happen next. and no i was not prepared for Olivia Newton John dressed up in country fringe and then wearing a triangle on her head, and then being portrayed as different cartoon animals, and THEN, tight rope walkers and circus people spinning in the air by their necks. And who can turn down seeing the great Gene Kelly rollerskating with a bunch of "pre-punk rockers"?!?!
A night i will never, NEVER EVER forget. This is what summers are meant for!
