Clyde

This is my cat, Clyde. My husband purchased him for me out of wedlock a little over 3 years ago as a kitten. He is a big contribution to our house of fur. My funky grandma had an orange tabby growing up named Mateo, and i remember how affectionate they are so i was really excited to get one.

(He prefers sitting on top of the fridge even though we try and break this habit)

We didn't realize just how affectionate Clyde was when we first got him. Clyde is a pretty easy cat but ever since he was a little kitten he has this affinity of crawling up your chest and burying his nose and nuzzling for hours if you let him. It doesn't matter whether you are a boy or a girl. in fact, Clyde prefers nuzzling close to the Hot Pocket. He will sit there and nuzzle for a while and then groggily look up and there will be a big wet spot where his mouth has been. it is pretty strange.

A few months ago, on a lazy Saturday morning, i was reading a book when Clyde came and perched himself on top of me and started to nuzzle. I took out my camera and started taking a bunch of close up pictures of him. later, i went to chicago and Pocket created this video of our little darling. Click here to watch!

Diarrhea Management?

My profession requires me to talk to about diarrhea...a lot. Basically I know just about everything about HUMAN diarrhea managment.

But for the last 2 days, we have come home to both of our dogs having diarrhea while they have been in their kennel all day. We are talking NASTY nasty NASTY poop that the dogs have then rolled around in for the entire day. I thought perhaps Luna was sick because she ate a softball size of dog cookie dough (yes i made homemade dog treats for an upcoming work paw-ty) when i wasn't looking. that right there is enough to make you pretty darn sick.

but now it's just too much! Any dog diarrhea tips?

and yes, I will finish posting info on our trip...just as soon as the diarrhea subsides. sick.

The Dog and the Tampax

A potentially gross posting so please don't read if you are faint at heart...

In less than 48 hours of Charlotte being back home, we have already had a digesting fiasco that resulted in me and Pocket nearly pulling our hair out one follicle at a time. Apparently, her and Luna got into the bathroom garbage bin, yes the bin that has a lid and you have to step on the lever to open it. How they were able to figure out how to open it is beyond me. And then they chewed up and ate tampons. It took us about 5 minutes before we knew what was up.

Now mind you, this is NOT the first time this has happened. Not even the SECOND time this has happened. but, the THIRD time. We quickly administered the hydrogen peroxide and charlotte threw up her dinner and the Tampax within minutes. Luna, that we now affectionately call "Stomach of Steel," sat around with her tail between her legs and refused to throw up. We would stare and stare at her and she just looked back at us like "What. bring it on. I can play this no vomit game for hours." I'm nervous that she will obstruct but what can we do now but watch and wait?

Again, the Pocket and myself are on poop patrol...sick. seriously, sick.

The putty eater returns...

Things didn't work out with Charlotte's adopted family so she will be moving back with us.
Luna will be thrilled and i'm sure they will be back to their Thelma-and-Louise pranks in no time. And i'm beting Becks will be MORE than excited to get his girlfriend and occasional floozy back.
And me and The Hot Pocket? We are stoked to have our little Char-Char back...counter-cruising and all.

She is still up for adoption! any takers?

Lonely Luna

Our little foster dog, Charlotte, was adopted 2 weeks ago and Luna has not been the same. It is the first time in over a year and half that little Luna has not had a play friend and she is acting out. She has torn up her dog bed and listlessly lays about the house.

We have decided to take a break from fostering for the summer simply because we have too much going that it would be impossible to teach another dog the ropes of being a civilized hound.

We took Luna to the bottom of Tanner Park yesterday and she perked right up, running up and down the trails and jumping into the water. The moment we got home she looked depressed and took a nap. Perhaps we need to find her a friend.

"The fixings for a bowel obstruction"

In case you were not aware, my husband and i foster rescued basset hounds. i do realize the radomness of this statement but i cannot tell a lie. Charlotte, our most recent basset hound, is a one year old that is very much still a puppy. she is known for constantly getting into things. The nice thing about having a puppy in our household is our 2 1/2 year old mutt dog, Luna has a play mate to play rough and tumble tug-o-war with my underwear.
A few weeks ago, on a Saturday afternoon, Pocket and I came home from errands and noticed that our dogs had thrown up this weird whitish gray vomit. weird, but we weren't too concerned. Then, Charlotte continued to throw up bright blue chunks of something. When we were cleaning it up i noticed that the bright blue was pieces of her LEASH! while in the backyard she must have chewed up her leash somehow and decided to eat it. ...you know because blue nylon is as scrumptious as a Thanksgiving dinner, don't you think? Upon further inspection of the backyard we noticed that an entire container of plumbers putty had been demolished and only a sliver of the packaging was left.
"Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! They are going to die!" so we rushed them into the emergency vet clinic. It was now Saturday night and raining and the only thing that would have made things worse was if we got a flat tire on the way to the vet.
"we better xray, Charlotte" the vet says. "This is all the fixings of a bowel obstruction."
$350 later, Charlotte and Luna was given a clean bill of health and Pocket and I were on poop patrol.
